Performance tuning and benchmarks

What to check before reading an inference benchmark

Before interpreting a performance number, check the model version, hardware, request workload, and timing boundaries. This example presents those conditions in a table and callout. It shows how to document benchmarks and provides no scores or performance conclusions.

What to check before reading an inference benchmark — illustrative cover, not measured data

Record conditions before reading results

This example checklist contains no measured data and cannot support performance claims.

ConditionDetails to record
ModelIdentifier and pinned version
EnvironmentAccelerator, nodes, drivers, and runtime
WorkloadInput/output length, concurrency, and request count
MethodWarmup, timing boundaries, repetitions, and failure handling

Distinguish latency metrics

TTFT, per-token latency, and total request duration answer different questions. Official articles should provide metric definitions and sources together.

warning

This table illustrates formatting; it contains no performance figures to compare.

Make results traceable

Retain original records and state the test scope beside conclusions. Explicitly identify missing data instead of filling it with zero.
